Staged Reading – Date My Mom
Tonight we’re gonna party like it’s 1999…except Julie has a dead husband.
One year after suddenly losing her husband, Julie is still trying to figure out how to live in a world without him. Her teenage son, Charlie, has decided she needs a little help and that help comes in the form of his senior project, a GeoCities website, and a dating profile for his mother. The project? Date My Mom.
Throw in an old Italian lady living next door who shows up with unsolicited advice and homemade cannolis, a high school principal who gets pulled into the plan, a cop who gets way more involved in Julie’s dating life than any police officer probably should, a father who will do just about anything to protect his daughter, and one teenage boy determined to get his mother back…and Julie’s quiet year of grieving is about to get a whole lot more complicated.
Funny, messy, heartbreaking, and just a little absurd, Date My Mom is a new play by Louisa Vilardi about grief, family, love, second chances, and figuring out how to keep living after the life you knew is gone.
